The Story of WIP

The Story of WIP
A Walk in the Park

WIP (A Walk in the Park) began almost ten years ago — in January 2016 — born from a simple yet powerful intention: to create space for healing, movement, and connection.

It started humbly in Parque del Sur, Maspalomas, when founder Lilly Rikhter led her first free outdoor session. Just a few people on the grass, breathing and stretching under the sun. She barely spoke English, had no grand plan — but people felt something different. They came back. And week after week, WIP quietly grew into a community..

Supported from the beginning by The Canary News, the project kept expanding — even through the pandemic. During lockdown, Lilly offered free online classes from home, helping hundreds find peace, grounding, and vitality during difficult times. Her dedication earned her recognition for social impact and community service..

In 2017, WIP became an officially registered non-profit association with a clear mission: to make wellness accessible to everyone, combining movement, mindfulness, and education to promote physical and emotional health..

Over the years, WIP has welcomed over 8,000 participants, from locals to travelers, children to seniors — all united by one simple truth: we feel better when we move and breathe together..

The initiative has been featured in international media, including The Canary News, PECB Insights, and film festivals in Europe, carrying its message of human connection and simplicity far beyond Gran Canaria.

A New Chapter: The WIP Meditation Center

From a Local Gathering
to a Global Pulse

In 2025, WIP entered a new era. After nearly a decade of free community sessions, Lilly Rikhter felt the time had come to give this movement a home — a space where the same spirit of service and awareness could deepen and grow.

The result was the WIP Meditation Center in Maspalomas: a sacred yet modern space dedicated to yoga, meditation, sound, and holistic healing. Created in collaboration with BODHI Production SL and supported by patron Christophe Mazzola (expert in IT and cybersecurity), the Center now serves as the living heart of the association.

Here, WIP hosts:
🪷 Yoga and meditation classes rooted in Himalayan tradition
🎶 Sound baths, breathwork, and mindfulness gatherings
🌿 Workshops, holistic therapies, and retreats of silence
💻 Online courses and educational recordings shared globally

The Center’s income fully supports the non-profit association — helping sustain free outdoor sessions, volunteer programs, and new community projects across the Canary Islands.

From the parks to this temple of awareness, WIP continues its mission: to make ancient wisdom and modern wellbeing accessible to all.
